Deborah Duke Chatfield

began designing interiors for her own homes and as a favor to friends in the mid 90's. What started as an enjoyable pastime grew over the years and culminated with additional professional training, the opening of her studio and the founding of Chatfield Design, LLC, in 2006.

Debbie's design philosophy builds on classic styles and updates them with innovative touches. "I believe that decorating a home is about making it comfortable."  She often infuses her work with natural or antique textiles, embroidered fabrics, prints, or Toile de Jouy. Debbie chooses fine furnishings, from antiques to artisan-crafted classics or modern pieces, which complement a client's aesthetic and lifestyle. She selects the highest quality paints and wallcoverings to create spaces filled with light and warmth.

Every project, large or small, receives meticulous attention to detail and prompt responsiveness as part of Chatfield Design's promise to its clients. Further, clients benefit from Debbie's alliance with superior artisans, craftsmen and installers, along with her extensive knowledge of furnishing sources in New York, Boston, Louisiana, and Maine.

Debbie says, "Listening to my clients is the most important part of my job. Their home is a reflection of who they are. I make sure there is always a happy ending."

Chatfield Design's studio is located at the head of the harbor in the village of Rockport, Maine, and serves clients along the mid-coast, including Maine's island communities. Debbie particularly enjoys historic home renovations and antique yachts. Outside of Maine, she has designed interiors for oceanfront residences in Florida, French-country-styled residences in southern Louisiana, and apartments in New York City. Her commercial projects include small retail businesses and executive offices.

Born in Ohio, Debbie grew up in the south. Before moving to Maine in 1999, she owned a small women's apparel business in Louisiana. She studied interior design at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and is a graduate of the Sheffield School of Interior Design in New York City. Debbie is an Associate Member of the International Interior Design Association and has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of interior design.
