T. Allen Lawson, Artist

As a designer, I am not often involved with the purchase of art for a client as it is such a personal decision. In this one instance, my client wanted my involvement, and I was happy to oblige for very selfish reasons, i.e., I get to visit one of my favorite artist's and it's a studio visit as well. T. Allen Lawson, better known as Tim, long ago captured my heart when we (my husband and I) enlisted him to paint my then, 16 yr. old son's portrait. I remember vividly our conversation about this. Tim really didn't "do" portraits and was somewhat reluctant. But, I had already had the pleasure of viewing some of his pencil drawings of certain individuals and was immediately taken by them. I knew he could do it, the task was to have Tim believe he wanted to do it. Enlisting the help of his wife Dorie wasn't hard as she was all in favor of the project. I will post photos from my studio visit but, I will leave it up to you to visit his website to appreciate the beauty of what this guy can paint. I love the way artists are sorta messy...it makes me feel better as a housekeeper.
And of course, if I had not taken a picture of May (#4 in birth order) I would not have been left alone. She's a cutie and exemplifies the happiness that this family exudes all over the place! |
