Sugarhigh + Lovestoned

You gotta love the name of this boutique. It harkens me back to my hippie days or what I like to think of myself as being a hippie at ten years old. It was more like a juvenile rebellion towards my parents pushing me into the yuppie age. Pleated khaki’s and button downs were so not on the radar in the late 60’s and, to even go there, meant a full melt down amongst any remaining friends that belonged to the dark side. So, here we go again with Sugarhigh + Lovestoned, the dark side revisited.

Their philosophy is: “ badass clothing for groupies, surfers, hippies, hitchhikers, rebels, skaters, lovers, stoners + other unusual suspects.” Hey, what about the bikers?"

I also like their other philosophy: “rock and roll, broken curfews, backstage passes, graphic tees, and studded minis!” I think this was my mantra way back when with a guy named Drew who drove his mother’s pink cadillac because she won it by selling Mary Kay Cosmetics.

What I am really getting at is that most of these models are wearing a line of jewelry that is the complete design of a daughter of a friend of mine. Torchlight Jewelry is starting to make it big. I wish I could drag up a picture that would liken myself to these girls back in the day but, one thing more is that this resurrection of fashion is a few years too late for me as a parent. I would have loved for my kid to have thought he was rebelling against me by dressing “hippie.” It would have been such a huge disappointment for him.

While I am from the “unisex” culture - Vidal Sassoon and all - I love the way that women wear the boots and the men wear the necklaces now with no question :-))
