Kitchen Makeover Beauty

There are times when a relatively new kitchen can become dated within a few years because of a couple of missteps.  When giving your kitchen or bath a facelift remember to stick with classics.  Trends change, leaving you with a dated kitchen and an expensive overhaul.  For me, a kitchen needs to be white or a shade of white.  This is because white is neutral and best displays the quality of the craftsmanship of the cabinets.  I was recently challenged to fix just this sort of dilemma.  The existing cabinets were very new and of top quality, unfortunately they were painted a blue color which closed in the feeling of the kitchen.  The blue color made the lighting and hardware look out of place and cold.  This particular color of blue evokes in me a feeling of country which contradicted the shiny new surface of the granite which was not a color to be paired with blue either.  What looked like a challenge at first became a pretty easy fix.  We only made two changes.  We painted the kitchen Farrow and Ball's color Pointing and switched out the countertops to a honed stone.  Everything else stayed, sans the little country curtains.  The kitchen now is bright, open and airy.  It will not become dated until we all stop using stone for countertops and white becomes obsolete.
