Kenneth Noland, Artist

I know I am way late in acknowledging Kenneth Noland's passing. After much reflection and not wanting to convey the wrong message I have finally decided what it really is that I would like to say. I had the fortunate experience to actually help with the activity of producing the Kenneth Noland exhibit at the Farnsworth Art Museum; "Kenneth Noland: "Themes and Variations, 1958-2002." At the time I had no idea who Kenneth Noland was. I didn't even know he was married to the very woman who is editor-in-chief of designers' true north, Architectural Digest (she does go by a different name so, cut me some slack here). Suzette McAvoy was the curator in charge of putting together this contemporary exhibit, of whom I came to grow fond of due to her sunny disposition and immense knowledge of art. Suzette produced the text for the book of Kenneth's work that is sold in the Farnsworth gift shop and it was through that book that I came to learn about Kenneth Noland. When the actual artwork began to arrive at the museum and I could see them, I began to look at contemporary art in a different light. His images began to take shape for me and the color, WOW! I had never heard the description of a "Colorfield Painter" but, quickly learned what that meant. I did not however, get to meet him nor, his wife Paige Rense Noland. I now always open my Architectural Digest hoping to see another one of Kenneth's paintings hanging in a beautiful home.
I only have a poster from the show, but I am happy to have that! |
