Fresh Eyes

I have recently just returned from a trip to south Louisiana. Having lived there forever, and in the last ten years becoming a transplant in Rockport, Maine, when I now go back for a visit I see the place with fresh eyes. The heritage of the French and the Creoles is really fascinating as it relates to what inspires me when I approach design. For me, French ideas, architecture and design have withstood the test of time. Unlike Art Nouveau and Art Deco, French design continues to influence us on all levels of design. I'm going to post one of my favorite homes designed by Louisiana architect, A. Hayes Town. Hayes became highly sought after for his ability to combine French Creole design with natural interior aesthetics. He was one of the first to use brick and wood on the interior as well as the exterior. His floor to ceiling windows, famous in New Orlean's structures, allowed open, naturally lit spaces and, refining the "creole cottage" for modern day times was brilliant. Merci! Another favorite is this fence and building, you feel like you are in French countryside. It's actually a Bed and Breakfast. www.countryfrenchbedandbreakfast.com |
