Frederick Law Olmstead

Olmstead was the founding father of American Landscape Architecture.  Now there is a new book heralding his prolific contributions to the landscape of America, not to mention the many institutions where or forebears, us, and our children have attended school.  This is of particular interest to me in that I am privileged to live on a property that was initially planned by Warren Manning under the watchful eye of Olmstead.  My husband and I discovered in our basement architectural landscape drawings by Manning, a little mouse signature here and there, but, otherwise in tact.  The most impressive drawing measures about 3.5' wide x 4.5' high and it's all hand drawn and colored, no Auto CAD back then!  Thank goodness.  I would love to post a picture but, can't figure out how to avoid the glare off of the glass.  Check out Olmstead's new book and thank goodness there now is one!
