The Color White

A color associated with feeling is how I think of white. Jackie Kennedy Onassis was told to always wear white when being photographed for family photo-ops because white came across as being virginal. I suppose one could look at white that way. Not having been tainted by color, if you will. For me white provides a clean palette in which to create a colorful environment or it can be the perfect backdrop for an art collection. White is classic, clean and uncomplicated. There are also warm whites and cool whites. Choosing one over the other depends on what type of look you are trying to achieve. Modern usually lends itself nicely to cool whites where a more traditional interior works nicely with warm whites. You can find white in a beach house, a farmhouse or a New York City highrise. White is not biased as to where it shows up because white always works. I like how the white in this picture is anchored by the dark wood. Tis a brave soul indeed that goes for white dining chairs.
I love this look with the warm whites and its European detail.
In this picture everything seems to work while we have several different styles going on. White and black coexist without looking retro. Gothic and primitive work side by side with out nary a blink of an eye.
What's not love about this bedroom. It feels as though it's floating. The chandelier is totally unexpected and charming.
Here we have a warm white in the curtain hiding the shoe boxes and a bright white on the acrylic chair. I think this gives dimension and I also think the owner of this room is way too organized. I mean pictures of the actual shoe in the box, who has the time?
