And So, To Bed

Earlier this year I found myself cruising around the New York Gift Show with a client/friend - that's usually the case and I love it when my clients become friends - scouting for the latest and greatest in design.  These shows are always a bit dizzying due to how much product is really out there and of course one feels the need to see everything lest you overlook something of value - much like an antiques fair.  I design bedrooms but, have never really entertained the thought of actually carrying bedding in my studio until I wandered into John Robshaw's  booth.  I suddenly found myself wondering as if I had walked into a Souk in some foreign country.

From these delicious fabrics John Robshaw creates his beautiful bedding that makes you feel as though you are really there.  The colors are so intense and achieved through an age old dying process.  The dyer says "the indigo vats are like a mistress because they need constant attention".  The result is beautiful.

I love this bedding below - there are five different prints going on here and they all work beautifully together.  The headboard they have chosen for the shoot is also a great choice in that it mimic's the prints on the fabrics.   The bird pillow is a little whacky but, whimsical as well.

Ink Blue, what's not to like and it's so not new.  Always a crowd pleaser though - never outdated - it seems to be a favorite here on the coast of Maine.  Check out the rug - great design, I bet it's a Robshaw.

You've gotta love the fact that John has inserted a dog bed, yeah!!  I doubt the Pelican pillow is meant for the dog but, if you are in my house it just might be so!

Details are the most important part of bedding, subtle yet striking, aahhhh - I'm feeling a little sleepy right about now and those sheets are looking mighty inviting.

As inviting as John himself - what a cutie pie working with families around Asia to keep the tradition going and mixing it up with his own ideas while retaining the sense of "handmade" to the consumer.  As a consultant for Aid to Artisans, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating economic opportunities for craftspeople in developing nations, John has traveled extensively world wide in support of textile artisans everywhere.  "When you look at my textiles, its like you've been on the world tour along with me."  What's not to love and of course he is in one of his very own shirts - love the hat.

Even if your bedroom is a tent - John can make it a great looking tent - camping anyone?  Or, dare I say I wanna camp with John, hehe....
