Anatomy of a Room, Continued...

I know this posting comes on the heels of my most recent Anatomy of a Room post but, I couldn't help myself. As you will see I have much to "crow" about with Rufus Williams. I will be inserting his renderings throughout this post for your enjoyment.
In my last post about “The Anatomy of a Room” I discussed the Swans Island Blankets participation since the looming/weaving of the fabric was in process. It is an eye opener as to how yarn becomes a fabric that can be used for upholstery. What makes this fabric so special is that it is made right here in Maine and it is not being manufactured in some foreign country sweat shop. Obviously it becomes a bit more expensive but, we can all take pride in supporting our own (we need that now).
Speaking of supporting our own, I will move forward with a little more insight as to the art of decorating a room. As you know I have put together a team to help me (Chatfield Design) make this the best possible room EVER and the same goes when working with a client, we become a team. Last fall I paid a visit to the studio of my friend and artist Susan Williams. It’s always great fun to visit an artist’s studio for me because I gain greater insight about the artist. Susan’s studio did not disappoint and beneath it all I discovered that her husband Rufus Williams is an artist in his own right (I have always known him as a businessman, who knew?).
Rufus exhibits his work with Thomas Moser in Freeport and with Sam Shaw in Northeast Harbor. Also, he sells out of his studio in Rockport by appointment-www.rufusandsusanwilliams.com. Rufus enjoyed a solo show in 2007 at 10 High Street, an art gallery in Camden, Maine. When talking with Rufus about his work he seems to treat it casually. Rufus’ work is light, colorful and organic. I am not an expert by any stretch but, I know when something is good (being the purveyor of fine things :)) and Rufus’ watercolors are really good. There is a certain innocence to the objects he paints.
Rufus is going to have a few of his smaller watercolors on view in the Chatfield Design Showhouse room. And, I am really hoping for a book of his studies so that we may all take pleasure in enjoying his work. I know, I know, owning a work of art by your favorite painter is the best but, when you are on a limited budget a book is the next best thing!, Right? Maybe I can talk him into publishing a few to sell them in my booth at the Maine Home + Design Midcoast Show in Northport, June 5th & 6th, don’t miss it, I’ll be there!! And don't forget that Maine Home + Design is the official sponsor of the Camden Garden Club Premier Decorator Showhouse. Thanks to all!! |
