The Anatomy of a Room

The Camden/Rockport Garden Club is having their first ever Designer Showhouse in Camden, July 2010. I am taking on the great big room in the middle of the house and it's a clean slate. It is much like when an artist sits down to a clean canvas. There are steps all along the way that, when under ideal conditions, it is still a process. Even when the vision to the end effect is clear from the beginning things can change, especially with collaboration and, it's the collaborative effort that I want to share with you so you may better understand "the process" and not be intimidated by it. We are in the initial stages of deciding on a look. Since we are only trying to please our selves, this becomes a much harder task! "WE" is my team because it is all about team effort no matter whether it's a showhouse or your own house. The team members are Swans Island Blankets, Alfred's Upholstery, Edith Caldwell, the gallery and, Sarah Szwajkos Photographer. I will be posting the process over the next few months so stay tuned. The first step was choosing the style of furniture I wanted to use. Once over that hurdle, comes the upholstery fabric which is very important because the fabric sets the tone. So, I made the trek to Swans Island Blankets to start this dialogue with owner, Bill Laurita. As you can see here, color is no object, hhmmnnn, this is always the biggest hurdle for me because I love every color, even black. Indigo is a always a favorite with men and women. Bill and I discuss this over one of their recent woven designs. |
